Description of Significance THE NEWKIRK CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT IS A THREE BLOCK AREA IN DOWNTOWN NEWKIRK THAT INCLUDES THE MAJORITY OF HISTORIC COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT IN THE AREA. THE DISTRICT IS COMPRISED OF ONE AND TWO STORY STRUCTURES, DATING FROM 1894 TO 1920. THERE HAVE BEEN FEW INTRUSIONS AND THE BUILDINGS RETAIN A HIGH DEGREE OF INTEGRITY. LISTED IN NATIONAL REGISTER 2/23/1984.
